About the Author:

Beverly Lipford was born in Martinsville, Virginia. She graduated from Martinsville High School, a member of the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll (International Honorary Society for High School Journalists), and the 1956 School Annual Book Staff. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. Beverly served as Vice President of the Virginia Lambda Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, in 1964 while living in Martinsville. She taught in elementary schools in Virginia for 34 years, including Clearview Elementary School in Martinsville, and W. T. Cooke Elementary School and Alanton Elementary School in Virginia Beach. Beverly was nominated for Outstanding Young Educator by the Virginia Beach Jaycees, and was listed in the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America, 1972 Edition. She was honored with a Life Membership in the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers (P.T.A.) in 1981. Beverly married Carroll Van Gasken Yeager, Jr. They lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Martinsville, and at Eastern Shore Chapel in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she also served as Primary Sunday School Consultant. While living in Virginia Beach after her husband’s death, Beverly also taught Sunday School at Wycliffe Presbyterian Church, and at First Colonial Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, on the Social Committee, and as Co-Chairman of the Flower Committee. She is currently a member of One Accord Baptist Church in Martinsville. Beverly served on the committee of the Henry County Heritage Book, Volume One, published in 2010. She is a lifetime member of the Virginia Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society.
