9781453835340: Learn Chinese through Songs and Rhymes (English and Chinese Edition)

*** Free downloadable audio files for the songs and the Chinese lessons *** Please visit my blog site at http colon slash slash teachmechinese.wordpress.com to get the download link. If you purchased a used copy of "Learn Chinese through Songs and Rhymes", it may be an earlier edition of the book that mentions an old URL for the audio files. In that case, please visit my blog site and click on the "Learn Chinese through Songs and Rhymes" tab. This will lead you to a page that provides the current URL for the audio files. Thank you.
"Learn Chinese through Songs and Rhymes" demonstrates to beginners and intermediate students the usage of Chinese words and expressions through songs, rhymes, conversations and stories in a systematic way. You will be reading or singing along with the supplemental audio files while following the text on the page. And before long, you will have mastered the basics of speaking Chinese. This is because this book not only provides the English translation for the vocabulary, songs and sample sentences, but also points out the sentence structures and shows you how to apply the language rules. It familiarizes the readers with many sentence patterns that are commonly used in everyday speech. What you will get is a dynamic method that you can use to expand your vocabulary and make your own sentences to handle real-life situations. And you will be doing that in a fun way.     Forty simple songs and rhymes are featured, most of which are familiar Western and Chinese traditional songs, such as Stephen Foster's "Oh Susanna" and the Xinjiang folk song, "Traveler on Camel's Back". The author took care to translate the songs in such a way as to allow them to be sung in either English or Chinese. This book is for anyone who wishes to learn Chinese. All the word lists, songs, rhymes and sample sentences in this book are presented with the Simplified Chinese characters, the pinyin phonetic aid as well as the English translation. If you just wish to pick up a few Chinese words and read a few interesting cultural bits, you can do so easily. If you are an independent learner, this book will give you an overall picture of the language and serve as a good foundation for you to build upon. This book will also work well as an interesting supplement to any middle-school, high-school or college-level Chinese instruction program.     Continue learning Chinese from the author by visiting her "Learn Chinese Weekly" blog site on the Internet. Here are a couple comments my readers posted on the blog site:"Awesome! I was soo excited about getting the book, I missed the page and dove right into the lessons. I'm very excited about learning the songs and rhymes : D Thanks so Much!!!" - Brent Cochran"Really good book. I am intermediate Chinese student but I think this one of those few books that really gives you the foundation for you to progress afterwards." - Javi

From the Author:

The Chinese were the first to make a number of important discoveries and inventions, such as the gun powder, the paper and the printing press. Yet, the western world has caught up and leaped well ahead. What caused the Chinese to lag behind? One could point an accusing finger to the difficult written Chinese language and the inflexible number system, which don't lend themselves well to formulating mathematical and scientific expressions. Another factor to blame is the traditional mentality of keeping an invention or an ingenious idea  to oneself or within one's family, jealously guarding it from outsiders. Progress can be made only when information and knowledge can flow freely and be shared. Each of us has something to offer to the world. I'm pleased to have found in publishing this book a platform on which to share my knowledge of the Chinese language. An even more wonderful platform is the Internet, where all kinds of useful information is available 24/7. I have posted many articles on my blog site to feed more Chinese reading material to my readers. I have learned so much from books and the Internet. This is my way of giving back.

From the Back Cover:

Sing your way through the lessons that teach one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn. The songs will stay with you for good. So will much of the material in this book because it's a lot of fun to learn Chinese by singing the songs and reciting the rhymes. It will be a challenge to study a language that's a world apart from English, but you can do it. See if you aren't convinced right after reading the first chapter of this book.
