The real Tibet. The love of boy & girl, the majesty of Mt Everest and towering peaks, a lost treasure now guarded by lepers, life's challenges after China's entry into Tibet, the alienation of being a Tibetan refugee, and a possible way the Dalai Lama can now return to his homeland. A fast-moving novel with exquisite detail (and photographs) about the culture, nature, and politics of Tibet's recent past.

From the Author:

For 27 years I've been going to Tibet, a total of 44 trips now. The story that has grown on me is the Tibetan people's story. I brought this story forward in a novel--but it is a novel that presents what I have seen with my own eyes during those 44 trips over 27 years--massive changes in the life that the people lead. I have been lucky to see the transformation.

It is painful with much tragedy--but it is also uplifting to see the Tibetan people taking ownership of their lives--and it has been most gratifying to find sincere allies among the local government in Tibet and the distant government in Beijing join with the Tibetan people to improve lives and also the Tibetan environment. I wanted to share this complex story.

There is a great deal of hope for Tibet. In the novel I propose how the Dalai Lama can return. It is not hard.  In the novel I also expose a number of secrets that various parties have tried to hide about Tibet--for example the role of the American CIA or tragedies that occurred during the Cultural Revolution. But from this complex history, much little known, the reality of changing lives in Tibet is brought forward with hope.

Tibet is a splendid land--its people are equally remarkable.
