From the Inside Flap:

New Orleans is world famous for its unique residents and stunning architecture. Those who live in the Crescent City have crafted homes to suit their tastes and needs, creating some of the most beautiful, fascinating structures in the nation. Explore the private homes of renowned neighborhoods, including the Garden District, the French Quarter, Bayou St. John, the Bywater, and the Faubourg Marigny.

Author Bonnie Warren profiles the residents, their relationships to their homes, and well-known former occupants. Homeowners discuss the histories of their houses, detailing renovations and repairs and expounding upon striking the balance between preserving history and infusing the home with personal style. Inhabitants recount the fine points of additions and modernizations. Photographer Cheryl Gerber captures both the gorgeous exteriors of the houses and the intimate indoor details, design, and furnishings. The seamless marriage of past and present that defines New Orleans is encapsulated in these lush pages.

Bonnie Warren is the founding editor of New Orleans Homes and Lifestyles and the former city editor of Better Homes and Gardens. She served as editor of New Orleans Magazine, in which many of her articles have appeared. The winner of multiple awards for her freelance writing, Warren has contributed to dozens of other publications, including Woman's Day, Architectural Digest, and National Enquirer. Her many faithful years of volunteer work were recognized by the St. Elizabeth Guild, which honored her as one of the top ten community activists in New Orleans. Warren writes about travel, food, design, and architecture. She lives in New Orleans.

Cheryl Gerber attended Southeastern Louisiana University and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. Following a career move from reporting to photography, Gerber has won numerous awards, including several honors from the Press Club of New Orleans, for both her journalism and photographs, which have appeared in Rolling Stone, GQ, Maxim, Elle Dcor, and the Los Angeles Times. She is a regular contributor to the New York Times, The Associated Press, and New Orleans Magazine. A staff photographer for Gambit, Gerber is also a freelance journalist and self-employed photographer. She lives with her husband, Mark, and their son in her native city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

From the Back Cover:

"How many of us visitors to New Orleans walk its streets, secretly wishing to step inside the homes we pass? These houses have such charm and personality, you're convinced wondrous things are happening behind windows that glow with promise. New Orleans Historic Homes takes us inside at last; radiant photographs and revealing writing show the real life within to be better than our imaginations."
--Dorothy Kalins, founding editor, Metropolitan Home and Saveur magazines; cookbook producer and editor

"Few people have the ability to spot good homes, gain access to them, and tell their story as does Bonnie Warren. Few people are as good at photographing those homes as is Cheryl Gerber. Few cities offer such architecturally significant homes to choose from. Warren, Gerber, New Orleans: a great combination!"
--Errol Laborde, author, Mardi Gras: Chronicles of the New Orleans Carnival; editor and associate publisher, New Orleans Magazine; editor and publisher, Louisiana Life; producer, Informed Sources

"Bonnie Warren has been an avid and discerning observer of New Orleans for many years. In New Orleans Historic Homes, she combines her reporter's eye with her love of the city to create, along with photographer Cheryl Gerber, a stunning survey of the most intriguing and beautiful homes in the city. In her prose, Bonnie captures the unique character of each, from cottage to mansion. This is a treasure of a book that anyone who cares about New Orleans-and that includes me-will cherish."
--James A. Autry, author; former president, Meredith Corporation's magazine division; founding editor, New Orleans Magazine; former editor, Better Homes and Gardens

Step inside the storied homes of the Crescent City. In their own words, residents offer the histories of both their homes and previous well-known occupants. Lush photographs of stunning exteriors and interior details accompany each essay. From the Garden District to the Faubourg Marigny, author Bonnie Warren and photographer Cheryl Gerber highlight the best of the famous residences of New Orleans.
