Michael Greer’s career as a journeyman Private Investigator takes on a promising cushy outlook when his assignment takes him to Eastern Long Island’s North Fork, the resort and sporting playground where he’s slated to delve into the case of a local auto dealer who’s been officially reported missing along with an imposing chunk of pledged bonding company funds. Almost at once, Greer’s undertaking takes on an awesome dimension when the missing dealer’s terrified girlfriend turns out to be an incomparable beauty who’s been directed to seek his help in uncovering possible lethal circumstances related to her boyfriend’s disappearance. P.I. Greer finds himself drawn into a nightmare of intrigue and assassination in uncovering the perpetrators in current and past murder scenes and manages his own survival by out-matching his adversaries in smarts and nerve. Greer.s romantic involvement with two beautiful women closely aligned to the story’s events almost ends in his undoing as did a like affair in the immediate post-war days of his youth. But, in love, as in the ordeals of war, he learns to live with the fateful outcome of his fortunes and his intimacy with the wisdom in Shakespeare helps him find words for it.

About the Author:

The Leadfeather Syndrome is the first published work by Arnold D. Gardner, a WWII veteran who served in U.S. Army campaigns in North Africa and Italy beginning in the early days of the war, service that included the beachhead operations at Salerno Bay and the heavily contested battles at Anzio and Cassino. Major Gardner remained with the Allied occupation forces and received outstanding recognition from the Italian Government as well as the U.S. Army for his services in the post war reconstruction. A graduate of Syracuse University, Class of 1940, Mr. Gardner rejoined his family’s business for a brief period until he and Diana, his Italian warbride, were attracted to return to Rome, the city of her childhood years, where he worked initially as a NATO English professor and later as an administrator at the Overseas School of Rome. The Gardners eventually returned to the real estate brokerage scene on Long Island and Eastern Florida until retirement. The background and events described in The LeadfeatherSyndrome found creative impulse in the life profiling sketched above along with the author’s initial job-venture as a repo-man and securities skip investigator.
