George K. Toworfe is an academic and a renowned scientist. George joined the University of Ghana Medical School in April 1995 as a Research Fellow. A couple of months later he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Manchester, UK, to do a three-year PhD research and training programme in Biomaterials Science. At the University of Manchester, George was engaged in extensive research in Materials Science with application in Medicine and Dentistry. Part of his research was published in internationally renowned scientific journals. Upon completion of his PhD, he rejoined the University of Ghana Medical School and subsequently pioneered the establishment of the Department of Biomaterials Science at the Dental School, University of Ghana College of Health Sciences. He was appointed a Research Fellow at the Turner Dental School, University of Manchester between 2000 and 2002. He continued with teaching and research at the University of Ghana and was promoted to the rank of a Senior Lecturer in 2001. After three years he was awarded a Fellowship to undertake a Postdoctoral research and training programme at the Department of Bioengineering, University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, USA. At the University of Pennsylvania, George undertook extensive research in Biomaterials, Bioengineering and Tissue Engineering; and published the research in international biomaterials and biomedical journals. George is the author of over 30 publications and he is currently the President of Flowers School of Technology and Management, Germany. George graduated from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana with a BSc honours degree in Physics and Mathematics; an MPhil degree in Physics - Materials Science from the University of Ghana. In 1998, George obtained a PhD degree in Biomaterials Science from the University of Manchester. After his Postdoctoral research training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA, he also undertook a Masters Degree programme in Theology and graduated with an MThS degree in 2008. He is currently an Associate Professor in Biomaterials and Bioengineering. He lives in Kent, United Kingdom, with his wife Patricia and their two children Georgette and Patrick.
