Professor Boardman has taught finance and business philosophy at the University of Utah since 1977. He has been recognized by a variety of teaching awards over those years and further, in an administrative capacity, he has served as department chair, associate dean and acting dean of the David Eccles School of Business. In addition to his corporate experiences, he has served as a member of the board of directors for numerous for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Haikus on Business, edited by Professor Boardman, is the culmination of many years of teaching Foundations of Business Thought, a course dedicated to introducing business students to the world of commerce through the eyes of the poet, philosopher, economist, historian, business person, social scientist, academic and author. As a final project, each of his students was required to write a haiku poem focusing on each student's understanding of and/or feelings about business. The haikus are grouped according to the many functional areas of business. Each student is identified by name, year of taking the course and standing within his or her academic career - freshman, sophomore, etc.
These unique expressions of student creativity and objectivity add to the considerable ongoing conversations regarding commerce in these modern times, only this time, by individuals just starting their professional careers.
