County Cork, ‘Contae Chorcaí’ is the southernmost and is also Ireland's largest county and it is named after the city of Cork, ‘Corcaigh’. It is nicknamed ‘The Rebel County’ and much of what is now County Cork was once part of the Kingdom of Deas Mumhan.Cork contains a large number of mountain ranges, most notably, the Shehy Mountains which contains Knockboy (706m) the highest peak in County Cork. It also has the highest density of megalithic monuments in Ireland,from Neolthic tombs and Bronze Age monoliths to Iron Age Stone Forts and Ogham Stones.
