9781461101000: Dangers Of Excessive Antioxidants In Cancer Patients: A Health Impact Statement and Selective Review for the Medical Professional and Educated Consumer

Dr. Howes recommends that patients should be counseled against using antioxidant supplements to prevent or treat cancer. Dr. Howes presents 118 human studies showing antioxidant ineffectiveness in cancer treatment and of this, 39 studies show harmful effects. Dr. Howes presents 27 specific human cancer cell types which are shielded by antioxidants in lab studies and 9 similar murine (rodent) studies. There are over 11 million human participants in these studies, covering over 3 decades. Over 26 studies show that the antioxidants increase the risk of cancer development and 2 studies show that the overall mortality of cancer patients taking antioxidants is increased.

About the Author:

A Harvard Science Review article (Spring 2010) entitled, Antioxidants Not Heaven Sent, cited the article of Dr. R.M. Howes on the Free Radical Fantasy. Dr. Howes has been the single-handed, champion of the people in pointing out the invalidity of the free radical theory and of the ineffectiveness of the antioxidant vitamins and of their harmful potential. Dr. Howes swims upstream, against a downward tide of established oxygen free radical articles and authors but their paradigm has proven to be a highly unreliable predictor of clinical results in humans. He is considered by his peers to be "a walking encyclopedia on oxygen metabolism." His academic credentials are Blue Plate in that he was the first in the history of Tulane School of Medicine to receive simultaneously a doctorate of medicine and of biochemistry. He worked with Nobel laureate, Dr. Andrew Schally, on the isolation of thyrotropin releasing factor. He was trained as a General surgeon and a Plastic surgeon at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore. He was the first in the history of Johns Hopkins Hospital to obtain board eligibility in both general and plastic surgery in a six year period. Dr. Howes invented the triple lumen venous catheter, which has been credited with helping save the lives of over 20 million critically ill patients worldwide. His catheter is the number one venous catheter in the world today and his name is well recognized in over 100 countries. He has been recognized as a humanitarian, visionary, entrepreneur, singer, songwriter, inventor and author. He is a Dr. Norman Vincent Peale Unsung Hero award winner, which recognized his awesome versatility. He received the Harper Award from the American College for Advancement in Medicine and served as their keynote speaker. He is currently doing extensive research on cures for cancer and heart disease and development of revolutionary treatment modalities. He has written 16 books over the past 8 years on the subject of oxygen metabolism, as it relates to protection from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, malaria, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, aging and arthritis. He has written many scientific and medical papers and has lectured nationally and internationally. His research has shown that currently popular antioxidant vitamin overuse can be harmful and that oxygen free radicals are our first line of protection against pathogens and cancer. His passion is to have his discoveries at the patient’s bedside in his lifetime.
