Take a behind the scenes look at what radio was really like in the seventies through the eyes of a Memphis DJ. Read firsthand accounts of some of the seventies biggest stars and a 1974 interview with Jim Morrison (just three years after his death). Radio Daze is a lighthearted look at some serious issues, but mostly good times. Learn what it was like to be a disc jockey in the seventies. How much fun it was and how different it was from radio today. I have been in radio all my adult life, I played Classic Rock before it was classic, it was just rock. I have been a Program Director, Music Director, Promotions Director and Research Director in addition to my "On Air" work. WMC-FM100, WZXR Rock103, WHBQ, WRVR (The River), and WMPS FM (The Pig) are the stations that I have worked for in Memphis. I also worked for "The Father of Rock and Roll" Sam Phillips of Sun Records at his station in Florence, AL, WQLT. In New Orleans I worked at WRNO and WNOE FM. I spent fifteen years in Las Vegas and added KMZQ, KFBI, KWNR and KFM to my resume there. I swore every summer was going to be my last when I lived in Las Vegas. I married my best friend and we had our two children, Justin and Randee, while living there. As anyone in radio will tell you it's really hard on a marriage. Mine was no different. I also did local record promotion for ABC Records in New Orleans and National Promotion for Fretone Records (“Disco Duck”) owned by Estelle Axton of Stax Records fame. Here's what people are saying about Radio Daze: “Mitch, very good book, you did everything you set out to do.” – George Klein (Author of Elvis, My Best Man) “You have a God given talent to be able to express yourself through your writing. You express yourself so eloquently. You have a way to bear your innermost thoughts, you exposed your soul. You tell your story with humor and clarity.” – Chris Coffey “Mitch knows as much about American popular music as anyone I know, and better yet, he knows how to make it come alive in print. His prose makes you feel like you’re right in the room with one of the musical stars whom he’s describing. He can also lead you through the back alleys of popular music’s fakes and freaks, such as the Jim Morrison pretender whom he hilariously exposed.” – Mark Hoffman, Co-author of Moanin’ at Midnight: The Life and Times of Howlin’ Wolf “Mitch is a rare gem in a mountain of Rock Music.... We first met years ago when he was an on air personality at a small “rebel” station in Memphis. His voice, personality and knowledge of music became a major force in turning a cult following into a hugely successful radio station. He helped launch the careers of many huge artists of today.” – Jimi Jamison, lead singer of Survivor
