This book provides an introduction to modern methods for computer simulation of physical systems involving continuous variables. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of simulation languages and other software tools widely used in the simulation field. A simple simulation language (provided on 3.5 disk with the book) is used. Commercially available software is also described and applied. Case studies are included and simulation model validation is covered in detail. Real time simulation applications are also discussed.

This book deals very seriously with validation - making the book an outstanding one amongst other good introductions to modelling and simulation ... highly recommended as introduction for students, engineers and scientists. But also the experienced simulationist may find valuable hints for solving certain problems. - EUROSIM Simulation News Europe; The style is fluent, and the book is easy to read as a consequence...The text is intended to the mathematically inclined reader with little or no previous experience in computer simulation, and overall it meets its aims, giving a good perspective on simulation technology and on the range of problems with which modelling and simulation can deal. As such it will be useful both to the undergraduate student and also to the technical manager moving into the simulation field for the first time. - Measurement and Control
