9781462117024: From Baptist Preacher to Mormon Teacher

Wain Myers thought he knew what he believed, but after a revelation from God, something had to change. This black former Baptist preacher--and now black Mormon teacher--tells his fascinating story of following the Spirit's voice and ultimately becoming a convert in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the "LDS" or "Mormon" church). This remarkable true story will inspire you to follow your own promptings and share truth wherever you find it.

It was no Sacred Grove, but it was a place from which I knew my Father could hear me. I knelt at my bedside that same night and asked my Father which of the two churches I should attend.

"Neither," He replied.

Not exactly the answer I was expecting, so I waited to hear more.

Wain Myers learned at an early age that his path in life would include preaching the word of God. While the calling was clear, which church he should preach for wasn't.

In a moment of revelation, his feet were set upon a path that eventually led to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This inspiring true story shares the power of following God's counsel, no matter where it takes you.

Endorsements for From Baptist Preacher to Mormon Teacher:

"Truth is truth, and for most people it doesn't always come in a pretty package. Wain shares the truth and insights about why he believes what he believes. From Baptist Preacher to Mormon Teacher is not for the weak of heart! Wain Myers is taking no prisoners as he shares his raw, yet personal, experience of leaving the "cloth" and embracing the priesthood. His real, refreshing testimony will uplift you and remind you that, like the scriptures say, we are more than a conqueror!"
--Tamu Smith and Zandra Vranes, authors of SISTASinZION and Diary of Two Mad Black Mormons

"From Baptist Preacher to Mormon Teacher is a quick and delightful read. Full of compelling insights, it is also humorous, instructive, and thought-provoking. Readers will not only feel edified by reading this book, but they will feel like they've gained a new, wise, and very funny friend."
--Margaret Young, author and filmmaker

"When confronted with a fact that hurt him to his very core, rather than take the position of a man indignant, Wain laid aside the thing that offended him in favor of trusting that God was answering his prayer in His own way and time. He might have left the Church and never looked back, but Brother Myers has such a relationship with his Heavenly Father that he endured the pain for a greater good. This compelling response stands in stark contrast to the world that we live in today."
--Duane Pannell, coauthor of 3,000 Miles to Eternity

Review:

This author speaks with truth and candor. His relationship with God is one we can all aspire to. His insights into religions he personally experienced helped my understanding and strengthened my testimony. A one sitting read that will keep you interested. --Amazon

I was really amazed at the intrigue and process that this man went through even from youth in search of the Truth. I supposed that I would just read part of the review. I downloaded the book and hardly put it down until I had completed. it. A couple days later I was out visiting a family looking for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They brought up some of the same difficulties that he talked about in the book. So much of the book has lessons on how to live a very Christian Life and treat others with respect and love. This man seems to exemplify how I hope to become in many aspects. I was very grateful to have stumbled onto this book and will read it again. I thought that it was That Good! --Amazon

How does an African American Baptist preacher become a Mormon? How does he reconcile his faith with the history of the LDS church? If you are an African American who is curious about the LDS church, you will appreciate Wain Myers' experience. If you are a long-time member of the LDS church who cares about African American members (or about bringing more African Americans into the church), you will appreciate Wain Myers' experience. This book is well-written, not overly long, and very compelling. I recommend this book highly. --Amazon
