The days of our lives can be thought of as grains of sand in an hourglass. As each day goes by, another grain slips from the top to the bottom. My own hourglass was bottom heavy with sand when I wrote down my story of endurance and survival. It is this section that comprises my story. Hourglass is the story of my life experiences, told through my own perspective, as a Baby Boomer who grew up in Detroit, Michigan during the 1950s. My story describes over one-hundred years of history and makes reference to the events and the music that influenced my life, as I endured and survived encounters with mental illness, divorces, re-marriages and life-threatening hospitalizations amid a world filled with wars, riots, assassinations and anti-war protests over Vietnam, space travel successes and failures, national scandals, Y2K, 9-11 and economic meltdown.
