After a tumultuous childhood, Jane hopes to find success in adulthood. She and her mother, Mary, have a good business cleaning houses for a living, and Jane feels a measure of security now. When she meets and falls in love with Caleb, she thinks she may have finally found her happily ever after.
But life is not so kind. Despite Jane being pregnant, Caleb grows tired of her and turns to drugs and alcohol. The marriage ends in divorce. A few years later, Jane marries another man, but this relationship ends, too. Even though Jane is a single mother to two girls and has found the Lord, she knows the road ahead will be fraught with struggle.
When Jane meets Bob and Sue, a retired couple full of love, she begins to believe she might have a bright future. The two welcome Jane and her daughters with open arms, offering Jane love and support. Jane even decides to attend nursing school and fulfill one of her dreams of helping other people. But Jane still needs to deal with the wreckage from her past if she is ever to be free to truly love again.
