9781463419899: Sand Nigga: A Collection of Stories

Sand Nigga is a fictional collection of short stories, poems, unsent letters, and confessions written by a man and a woman over the course of 1 year. The source of the book's title, Sand Nigga is revealed in Story 6. Bula's heartfelt writing is captivating, humorous, frank, subtle, and courageous. The book's title story is a sharply poignant tale, which addresses imposed racism by older generations upon their unwilling and younger counterparts. In the story God Within, Bula's finely tuned ear for combining irony and humor with compassion is very telling, as story's protagonist asks the reader a series of questions and poses a seemingly radical scenario to allow for an imaginative adventure through America. Unsent Letters and Confessions take the reader on a journey through the comedic adventures of life, loves, losses, and triumphs. With each story, Bula creates believable and honest experiences in ordinary situations, which become extraordinary. The range of her talent and imagination is broad and yet focused. She has the unique ability to artistically create the worlds of the immigrant and the native, the man and the woman, the priest and the sermon, and the trillion-dollar corporations who seemingly rule the world.

From the Author:

We are so much more than our bodies.  We are limitless spiritual beings with the ability to create absolutely anything.  I truly believe that, and this is the message behind my first book.  I hope you love it as much as I do.  Thank you so much for reading. ~ XOXO, Bula

From the Inside Flap:

The Child asked them to take The Pledge.

From this day forward we shall:

Share our knowledge and understanding
with each other, so as to bring about
change more quickly;

Build strong bodies free from drugs and
poisons, which weaken and reduce
our ability to live;

Create and support only a government,
which is designed and run for all the people,
not just some of the people;

Develop our minds to their fullest potentials,
so we may stand tall in truth and knowledge;

Think, act, and speak constructively and for
the betterment of the world and mankind;

Heal and protect our beautiful planet;

See that every man, woman, and child
becomes physically, mentally, and
spiritually strong; and

Love and uplift one another!

Never again shall we compromise
our self-respect.

Instead, we shall stand tall
and firm in our integrity!

We shall not have anti-war rallies!

Instead, we shall march for peace!

We shall not continue the racial, ethnic
and religious prejudices of our forefathers!

Instead, we shall end all racial, ethnic,
and religious prejudices on this planet,
forevermore!

From this moment on, we are free!

And so it was...

Book Description AUTHORHOUSE, United States, 2011. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.A bold and beautiful compilation of short stories, unsent letters, and confessions, Sand Nigga is Bula Barua s much-anticipated first published work. Bula s heartfelt writing is captivating, humorous, frank, subtle, and courageous. The book s title story is a sharply poignant tale, which addresses imposed racism by older generations upon their unwilling and younger counterparts. Dear Auntie X - You can choose to be racist against Africans and Muslims, if you d like. That is your prerogative. I still love you. However, when I was 15 years old and I received that racist note wedged in my locker, I chose to take my focus off the color of a man s skin, and instead focus on the content of his character. I chose to believe in the dreams of Martin Luther King Jr. and live by the great words of our own Mahatma Gandhi. Bula s finely tuned ear for combining irony and humor with compassion is very telling. With each story, she creates believable and honest experiences in ordinary situations, which become extraordinary. The range of her talent and imagination is broad and yet focused.
