Although 1940 hosted one of the five years of Hitler’s blood thirsty war, it held many great lessons and stories to be told for many generations to come, here is only one but it holds the tales of hardships, struggle, peril and toil that many civilians, POW’s, resistance workers, soldiers, volunteers, and families had to face. Although many were separated from loved ones they were together in thoughts and prayers, the faith, hopes and dreams that encouraged the heroes of yesterday to keep going was incredible and every one of us can surely learn something from these brave men, women and children.

About the Author:

Kate Elizabeth Bevan was born 4th December, 1995, into a family of seven siblings. Kate is the second eldest of the Bevan family who resides on a Dairy Farm in Far North Queensland, Ravenshoe. Bevandale has been in the family for over one hundred years. Kate, a conscientious student and blossoming novelist, attended St Teresa’s primary, Ravenshoe, until Year 5. After this she was home-schooled until Year 8 by her mother, Cherie Bevan (dec. January 2010). Kate is currently in Year 10 at Ravenshoe State School, P-12. A keen reader from an early age, Kate’s writing inspiration started when she was first introduced to the Saddle Club Series, written by Bonnie Bryant. Her passion has developed and Dreams Without Hope is her second published novel. In a World War II setting, Dreams Without Hope is a story of a young girls journey from childhood to adulthood. Kate’s love of history is evident in the storyline with attention to detail at every twist of the plot. Her mature perspective of the struggles people underwent in this time, with their unselfish acts of bravery, are vividly intertwined in her characters. Kate writes with a maturity that is often not seen in current generations. It is with great anticipation that I look forward to her next adventure. Jodie Gray Teacher
