High Alcohol Content is an illustrated book of poems written by a recovering alcoholic. Author Julie Kaffai provides insights into being an alcoholic with poems that are truthfully blunt, sometimes humorous and readily recognizable to anyone whose life has been affected by alcohol. For other recovering alcoholics, the poems will strike familiar chords. For families and friends of alcoholics, these poems provide insight into the daunting side of this disease. And for those who see themselves still living the life described in these poems, this book offers consolation and hope. It is the author's intention to pay her sobriety forward, and this book is a step toward that goal.

After a 15 year journey with alcohol that began when she was 14, today Julie travels on her own two feet. In May 2011, on her 3rd anniversary of sobriety, Julie earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of South Florida, graduating with honors. “I chose this field because I know now no one needs to be trapped in the darkness of their own mind,” she says. “My life’s goal is to pay my sobriety forward.” Julie is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, with deployments overseas and stateside. Born in Galveston, Texas, she has family roots in Buffalo, NY and is establishing her own roots now in Safety Harbor, FL with Todd, “the love of my life.” A regular blood donor, animal lover, and mentor to those in need, Julie is compassionate, honest and sincere as only a “been there, done that” person can be. Her poems describe her addiction with a universality that is familiar to alcoholics everywhere. From “The Freebie” to “If My Truck Could Talk,” readers may relate to the fears and self-sabotage that alcohol produces. The fact that she is healthy, sober and alive today to write this book is testimony to the fact that a changed mental attitude can overcome even the most deadliest of addictions. This is her book of hope for you.
