Review:
"The slangy, cartoonish style suits Pants on Fire shenanigans."--"Publisher's Weekly"
"The characters are sassy as ever." --"Kirkus Reviews"
Everyone wants the diamond earrings Marilyn Monroe wore in Some Like It Hot, and everyone--the bar owner, the ex-bartender, the PI, the estranged wife--thinks the others are hiding them. The diamonds were last seen at a benefit that took place the same night magician Alan Mitchell was killed in Kyle Tierney's bar, with Cristina the bartender as a witness. Kyle served his time, and Cristina is back in town, hiring Billy Bonham for the job of finding the earrings. And Billy has brought his high-school classmate Cat DeLuca into the game. Cat lives in a bungalow in the Chicago neighborhood of Bridgeport, surrounded by her family, including several cops. Her mother wants her married and is disappointed when Bonham is killed in what looks like a drive-by shooting. Cat takes over the case with Cristina and pursues Bonham's killer as well as the earrings. Along the way, she uses her police connections to skirt the law--but also helps Bonham's mother with her son's funeral. Cat is a young V. I. Warshawski, but she's surrounded by an eccentric family reminiscent of Stephanie Plum and her clan. --"Booklist Online ""Reviews"
