From book's introduction:
"How is it that Ireland, a small fleck in the Atlantic with fewer people in it than Belgium, has created a voice that all the world seems to hear?
Lacking armies, it has dispatched legions of high-octane conversationalists who have managed to conquer a part of the global imagination. Whether it’s Blarney, gab, craic or some less tasteful contribution, the Irish always seem to reserve their highest honors for those who can turn the clever phrase."

About the Author:

Robert Sullivan grew up in an Irish-German household in the New York City area. His relationship with his maternal grandfather, who was born in County Kerry, formed the foundation for a long-running interest in Ireland and Irish culture. It grew on a first visit to Ireland in 1975. Staying in the simple cottage of his grandfather’s step-sister in a remote outpost on the Beara Peninsula, he became fascinated with the durability of Irish culture, even in the face of the country’s rapid modernization. After several return visits, he created a website ireland-fun-facts.com, which has allowed him to indulge his ongoing fascination with all that makes Ireland unique.
