About the Author:

Ken Barat is the former laser safety officer (LSO) for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and National Ignition Facility Directorate at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Presently he is continuing his passion for laser safety through private consulting. He has received both Jim Rockwell awards (2009 and 2005) for Laser Safety Leadership and Education, and Tim Renner User Service Award (2002) from the Advance Light Source as well as recognition awards from the Department of Energy and LSO Working Group. Member and presenter at the UK Laser Safety Forum series.

Review:

"This new edition provides the Z136.8 Research Laser Standard and offers updates and an explanation of eye exposure limits, e.g., maximum permissible exposure (MPE). There are also new case studies and practical example images. It includes laser lab design lessons and addresses user facility challenges and laser disposal. The various sections deal with components of laser work, laser safety from the optical table, power meters, training adults, and other similar topics. The content will be very useful for the laser safety officer or laser user. This book would be a practical textbook for both the novice and the seasoned professional."
―Lisa Tongning Li, Livermore, California, USA, from Optics & Photonics News
