Becky the butterfly is always being bullied by Kevin the wasp, who is always trying to take over the whole meadow. Not only that, but he threatens to steal all the caterpillars and bring them home to the Queen Wasp's children! Becky finally stands up to Kevin, only to learn that he, too, is bullied at home for being different than all the other wasps. A worker wasp, Kevin is a "fluke of nature" because only female wasps are workers, while male wasps are drones. One day, he confesses his sadness and frustration to the flowers in the meadow. Becky overhears it, and her opinion of him changes as she takes pity on him. While Kevin rejects her help, Becky will not give up. She will do her best to stop the other wasps from bullying Kevin, even at the risk of her own life!

Kate Quinn created Becky Butterfly and Kevin Wasp at the age of 6. She grew up and decided to write a children's story about it. Kate has been writing stories since very young. Also a musician, she composes music, sings and plays the piano and guitar. She is the president of Fantasy Weavers' Original Theatre and Opera for Children and Adults, a group whose specialty is putting on works of fantasy, either for children and adults or strictly children. For example, "Becky Butterfly and the Story of the Wayward Wasp" was performed in October 2011 by Fantasy Weavers. Like the story it sends a message that it's okay to be different and that bullying is unacceptable.
