Artist to Marie-Antoinette and Empress Josephine, Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840) radicalized the botanical painting, drawing as much on science as on art for his exquisite flowers and fruits. About the Author
Pierre-Joseph Redouté (10 July 1759 – 19 June 1840), was a painter and botanist from the Southern Netherlands, known for his watercolors of roses, lilies and other flowers at Malmaison. He was nicknamed "The Raphael of flowers".
