Italy, Bologna: The most visited and recognised part of Bologna is its railway station, simply because everyone is frantically passing through it to go to its more famous cousins: Florence to the west, Venice to the east and south to Rome. To the outsider, Bologna is an enigma; its streets eerily void of tourists and locals during the baking hot summer months. Now, for the first time, this unique city guide exposes a host of secret locations kept under lock and key, where priceless art work is stashed away from prying eyes, and offers invaluable advice about visiting jealously guarded points-of-interest even the neighbours greedily conceal from each other. Since 2005 we have gained unhindered access to private and public buildings recording in both video imagery and words so only those with a profound sense of curiosity and adventure may let their nose guide them into unchartered waters. This is an ancient citadel still asleep – but not for long.

A native of Belfast, Ireland, he moved to Bologna in 2005 after many years travelling around Europe. Naturally, curious of his surroundings, he took an interest in what lay behind all the closed doors in this ancient city only to find hidden art treasures and incredible sights that many of its own inhabitants knew little about. For this reason, he began recording these spectacular scenes and published them online through the medium of video and photography. After a few years of developing and tweaking this new found interest a pocket guide called naked Bologna, was born. Its main intention was to reveal the richness of Bolognese history through videos that would in future be accessed from mobile phones and an internet connection. Consequently, this diligent work came to the attention of the local press in the Corriere di Bologna which in turn, led to the naked Bologna pocket guide being nominated for a civic prize in March 2012: ‘Il Premio Bologna Città Civile e Bella’. He presently continues to teach English to pay the bills but, with the intention that discovering his adopted home will eventually become a ‘full-time’ job. Lastly, but by no means least, his grand project is actually about convincing those sitting on the tracks at Bologna Centrale, that this city really is worth abandoning the comforts of their high-speed train to go exploring, even if only for a few hours.
