View all copies of this ISBN edition: @MichaelAWoodJr The book is moving to the PLA, Police Leadership Association, LLC. Check out additional resources there. Includes every bit of material and guidance you will need to get promoted to Sergeant or Lieutenant. General Orders, PCM, Law Enforcement Management, Criminal Digest of Laws, 167 practice written test questions, the oral board, and the most extensive oral board scenarios are all included, no other resource will be needed. Even if you are not eligible yet, this guide will show you how to handle complicated situations in the BPD and make you a much better officer. When it comes to promotion time we all are looking for an advantage. That advantage is here. This is the fresh and up to date advice of an active police manager that just completed the process for the highest civil service rank in the Baltimore Police Department. This guide is not all of the theoretical information that you find in the guides that are out there, which are not written by real police and do not understand what really goes into the boards and what we really need to know. All of the fluff has been taken out, just the facts, the tricks, and guidance. I only took the test once for each promotion and I am passing the lessons that I learned, good and bad, on to you. I go over what to expect from the oral boards, the mindset that you need, how you need to appear, and I provide the most extensive benchmarks for 21 scenarios. The scenarios are the true gem of this publication. No matter what level of policing you are on, these scenarios are sure to help you out, not just in testing but in practical application. Step by step on what to do with a new shift or squad, how to handle various administrative, personnel, routine, and tactical situations. What do you do if you are left in charge and there is an active shooter that is barricaded? What do you do when you find out your officer was just involved in a domestic incident? What do you do when an EEOC incident occurs on your shift? I tell you step by step along with many more situations. If you are in an agency that has oral boards in the promotional process or if you just want to be a better supervisor, this is for you.

About the Author:

I am writing because I am trying to do my part to enhance policing at every level. Maybe one day I will move into writing about something else, but for now I write about what I see and what I hope to improve. I am passionate about police leadership and have found that everything the police are taught is highly theoretical and has little to no practicality for the actual police officers and supervisors. I am working to create practical applications out of the theories of law enforcement management. For now I am writing about the basic tools of supervision and how to get there. 9 years from trainee to the Lieutenant's list is what I did and I want to show others how to do that to help define their career paths and show them that upward advancement is possible. The big project for the future is a complete reference of practical application of law enforcement concepts for police supervisors. Instead of scholars writing vaguely about the results of some study; I will demonstrate how the things we have learned actually are applied on the street to enhance public safety. The other stuff.. I am happily married, father of one daughter. Graduated with B.S. from Kaplan University, Summa Cum Laude, President's / Dean's List. Attended BCCC, 4.0 GPA, Distinguished Scholar. Member of: Alpha Phi Sigma, Alpha Beta Kappa, and Golden Key Honor Societies Served in the USMC for 4 years as a FAST Co. member, Sergeant. Baltimore Police Department, Patrol, Violent Crime Impact Division, Personnel Level II Crash Reconstructionist 150+ hours of narcotics training
