Twenty years after winning an Olympic bronze medal at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games, Dave Johnson now serves as Director of Athletics at Corban University. * “Corban Athletics stands in a pivotal place in today’s amplified sports culture,” Dave says. “Our students strive to reflect God’s design for athletics.” * In his first year as Director of Athletics at Corban, Dave spearheaded the introduction of the now annual 12 Hours at Corban cross country road race each May to help teams prepare for the annual Hood-to-Coast run and raise money for Warrior Athletics. * Dave was instrumental in the creation of a monthly Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) leadership breakfast for local high school and college coaches that meets on Corban’s campus. He also worked side-by-side with Corban’s Assistant Director of Athletics and head coaches to implement a Captain’s Counsel that prepares Warrior team captains to lead their teammates both on and off the field. * As Dave works with Corban’s athletes, he also shares a personal vision and goal with others who have a heart for Corban athletics, and he is looking for partners in a monumental project. * Dave’s passion for Corban University athletics includes an all-new Warrior SportsPlex that will feature a full-size, eight-lane track & field stadium as well as a championship-style FieldTurf soccer field. * In addition to the SportsPlex, the Warrior Softball Field will be relocated and an all-new Warrior Cross Country course, which encompasses a portion of Corban’s newly-acquired 41 acres that surround the northeast side of the campus, will be completed. * The final piece of the Warrior SportsPlex project will feature an all-new Field House that includes new athletic offices, an Olympic-style weight room, an arena for the Warriors’ basketball and volleyball teams and indoor practice areas for Corban’s soccer, softball, baseball and golf teams. * “Corban holds an environment for success and the students work hard for what they have,” Dave says. “The improved facilities will provide more opportunities for student athletes to serve the Lord.” * Dave lives in Salem with his wife, Sheri, and four children—Alexandra, Makenzie, Gabriel, and Eliason—while also working as an Olympic and motivational speaker for clients such as Reebok, IBM, VISA, and Billy Graham. Dave and his family attend Morning Star Community Church.
