Arilla is born under a shroud of suspense in a small hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. From the moment of her birth, her nervous parents sought to do everything in their power to hide her “differences” from those in her immediate environment. Especially from Arilla herself. In her adult world, a combination of good and evil forces will put her on a path of intrigue and danger. After stumbling onto a message from her dead father, she is led to Salem Village, a place that only exists in the past. Rayne, a witch, and her sister Leigh, an energy healer, hold weekly meetings with a group of women from different walks of life. Rayne is contacted by a ghost at a séance on Halloween night. There is an ominous message that leaves her open to the possibility of danger. Arilla is drawn into their world as she struggles for answers. Learning of their different lifestyle, Arilla wants no part of them. But soon, she will also receive a visit from a hooded stranger, warning that the lives of not only her children but of humankind itself, is in danger. He warns her to “gather the others.” It is only now that she gains the strength she needs to seek out and unite the others for the task ahead. In the meantime, the mystery man visits each of the girls with similar frightening results. Arilla soon finds a deep connection to Rayne who will eventually become the leader of the group of ‘strange’ women. She and her new acquaintances are urged, through forces unknown, to travel to Salem where she retraces her path to Salem Village, There they meet an unseemly group of people who will guide them on part of their journey into the past. When the purpose of their mission is revealed, they find themselves faced with the task of solving a crime that was committed hundreds of years earlier. With little information, they are thrown into the 1600's, with only their wits and newfound, but clumsy paranormal abilities, to solve crimes of the past. Before starting their journey, the women discover the truth about Arilla.
