Dragons relish the taste of fear. Sir Joseph of Tredin thoroughly enjoys his job defending the border between human settlements and the dragon-lands by fighting and killing dragons. While his team keeps a tally for him, Joseph never indulges is such self-aggrandizement. Their effectiveness may be the reason why King Paol assigns the knight's team to the border more often than any other. But when the King Paol falls mortally ill, an army from the mainland invades, and dragons demand sworn fealty from the king, Joseph must leave his wife yet again on a quest to seek a promised elixir to save the king's life. There are two minor obstacles: the elixir is hidden in the deadly dragon-lands, and to complete his quest, Joseph discovers he must become what he hates.

I like to call my works "clean fiction" -- no vulgarity, no profanity, no sex. For those who say: "What fun is that?" I didn't write for you. I wrote for those who want to have good, clean fun. One goal I have is to put the reader completely inside the main character's perspective. This is very fun for me as I read the books to my kids, because we all feel like we're living it.
I wrote this series for a more mature audience--not because of anything unclean. The life changes that the main character goes through are difficult to comprehend if you haven't faced them yourself.
This series answers the question that's posed in the "Split between Worlds" series: Where did Sam Westecher get the blood, authority, and power needed for him to rule dragons?" Even though this is a derivative work, it completely stands on its own.
"Spirited fantasy... entertaining story."
"Walton carefully layers unforeseen complications into his well-crafted plot to make Joseph's triumph all the more heroic and his destiny all the more deserved."
