A Sweeping Saga

As the sole survivor of the car crash that killed her parents, grief-stricken paramedic Kit MacKlenna is stunned to learn her life is built on lies. A legacy from her father includes a faded letter and a well-worn journal. The journal reveals she was abandoned as a baby 160 years ago. The only clues to her identity are a blood-splattered shawl, a locket with the portrait of a 19th century man, and a Celtic brooch with magical powers. Kit decides to continue her father's twenty-five year search for her identity, and solve her birth parents' murders.

Scotsman Cullen Montgomery, a San Francisco-bound lawyer who resembles the ghost who has haunted Kit since childhood, helps her join a wagon train heading West. More dangerous than the river crossings, bad water, and disease encountered on the trail, is Cullen's determination to expose her lies and uncover the source of her unusual knowledge and life saving powers.

Kit is convinced if she can survive the perilous journey and Cullen's accusations, as well as thwart his attempts to seduce her, she might solve the mystery of her heritage and return home without leaving her heart on the other side of time.

About the Author:

Katherine grew up in Virginia and Kentucky and attended college in New Jersey, where she earned a BA in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. After attending the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegal Training, she returned to Central Kentucky and worked as a real estate and tax paralegal.

Several years ago, Katherine decided to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming an author. Being a childhood fan of THE TIME MACHINE and A CONNECTICUT YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT, Katherine wanted to write time travel stories. Being a fan of PERRY MASON, she also wanted to write mysteries. But most of all, influenced by James Michener and having a passion for history, she wanted to write historical novels. Combining those influences, and drawing upon her early experiences working in the medical field, the plot line for her first book was born.

Katherine's research has taken her out of the country to England and Scotland and this year to the beaches of Normandy and Paris. Recently, she visited the World War II Museum in New Orleans and the Mighty Eighth Museum in Savannah, and topped the trip off with a flight aboard Texas Raiders, a World War II B-17.

Katherine is a marathoner and lives in Lexington, Kentucky.

Her quest is jeopardized when she meets a lawyer who resembles the ghost who has haunted her since childhood. What Reviewers are Saying! The author has done a wonderful job of bringing the characters and the story to life. Amazing characters and great storytelling make this a real page turner. The story took off and didnt stop until the very last word. It is full of growing excitement, twist, turns, surprises and full of romance and love. Love historical, time travel novels and this is one of the best Ive read. I could not put this book down. I would wake up in the middle of the night and start reading again. This is well done, clever and entertaining historical novel and romance. Katherine Logan has weaved an intricate tale in the classic western mode spiced up with the fantasy elements of time travel. A riveting five star read. I was so relieved to find a new book to read that wasnt filled with overly predictable plots. Wonderfully written! This story has everything . . . excitement, adventure, romance and suspense. Plot twists kept the book moving at a nice, swift pace. This story has the adventure of time travel, the heartbreak of tragedy and the mystery of a stalker--possibly more rolled into the same package. It all comes together so beautifully. I guess putting a genre on this book describing it as a time travel book is not doing it justice. It really is so much more. This is story I recommend to all, a story I will read again, a story that will always live in my heart! Endearing characters and story line. It just tugged at your heart and wouldnt let go. What did I like about it Let me count the ways--wonderfully developed characters, and in my opinion, with multiple POVs, the author nailed it with both the men and the women characters. Very well written book! The storyline is absolutely unique and developed in an interesting way. I especially liked the authors tone - it drew me in and made me feel part of the story. Description: From the white-plank fenced pastures of Lexington, KY, to the beautiful Bay of San Francisco, The Ruby Brooch, a saga steeped in family tradition and mystery, follows a young womans journey as she searches for the truth on the other side of time. As the lone survivor of a car crash that killed her parents, paramedic Kit MacKlenna makes a startling discovery that further alters her life. A faded letter and a well-worn journal reveal that she was abandoned as a baby. The only clues to her identity are a blood-splattered shawl, a locket that bears a portrait of a 19th century man, and a Celtic brooch with mystical powers. After studying the journal, she decides to continue her fathers twenty-year search for her identity and solve her birth parents murders. She adopts the persona of the Widow MacKlenna. Although a perfect cover for her eccentric behavior, she will be forced to lie and MacKlennas dont lie, or so she thought. Finally, dressed and packed, she utters the incantation inscribed on the ancient stone and is swept back to Independence, Missouri, in the year 1852. Upon arriving in the past, she meets Cullen Montgomery, an egotistical Scotsman with a penchant for seducing widows. The San Francisco-bound lawyer happens to resemble the ghost who has haunted Kit since childhood. She quickly finds the Bach-humming, Shakespeare-quoting man to be over-bearing and his intolerance for liars threatens her quest. If she can survive his accusations and resist his tempting embrace, she might be able to find answers she seeks, and return home to a new life without changing history or leaving her heart behind.
