About the Author:

Barbara Gini, CMBE is an educator, an author and the founder of the S.M.Art Kids Adaptive Yoga program. She is a member of the Afterschool Alliance, AAHPERD, NESTA, the Educational Kinesiology Foundation and the International Association for School Yoga and Mindfulness. She is additionally certified in children's yoga, holistic nutrition, reflexology and meditation. Barbara began working with children with special needs at age 14 and has worked in a variety of special education classrooms, camps and therapy programs ever since. She began practicing Svaroopa yoga in 1996 and became a certified children's yoga teacher and Mind-Body Educator in 1999. In 2001 she realized the great need for adaptive recreation programming for children that was both therapeutic and educational, and started the program that she uses today. Barbara's program is a unique fusion of simplified yoga science, modern educational principles and imagination. These elements help children live healthier lives by learning to reduce stress, concentrate better and understand the world aroud them. Her philosophy is: 'Not all children can do all things; but all children can do some things." Her programs use what the individual child can do, in order to help them with what they can't. Barbara works with parents, educators, yoga professionals and others, through workshops, webinars, books and other printed materials sharing her methods and promoting learning through movement, play, inclusion and other methods of whole child learning.
