When the Spring thaw reveals a body identified as retired CIA agent William Knoels, a clandestine government agency plays a deadly game of wits, coercion and subterfuge sending the Farnum, Charles, and Thompkins Private Investigations Agency on a life or death journey. The fight for their constitutionally guaranteed rights while uncovering who killed retired agent Knoels takes them into the gutter where they must fight against a secret government agency, arms smugglers, and drug dealers. The ordeal reveals how little the investigators knew about each other or themselves, and creates life-long bonds of respect and friendship.
