In Florida, the Electrical Contractors Licensing Board administers licensing, while the Bureau of Education and Testing administers the exams. An electrician applicant may want to first contact the local county licensing office for the area in which he plans to work to obtain an exam/license application. Entry-level electrical workers are usually required to go through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job training from a master electrician. To become a licensed journeyman, one need to possess at least 8,000 hours of work experience under the supervision of a master electrician plus complete a Florida Department of Education approved apprenticeship program. In the US, almost all technical exams on electrical works are based on the NEC. However, the NEC book itself is a 1500+ pages mega size monster.
