Patrick Francis’ paintings explore aspects of his personal experience, resulting in distilled images representing various portraits & still-life. Often utilising acrylic on paper or canvas as his chosen medium, Francis uses bold colour as an expressive tool, focusing his & the viewers’attention on key elements in his paintings. Recently, he has discovered new ways of creating imagery by experimenting with maps, Out of Space themes, fauna & portraits of his idols, drawing from life as well as using source material taken from magazines & fine art publications. This process has allowed him to successfully develop his sensitive line, composition & application of colour, resulting in highly considered & refined drawings. Francis has exhibited in Australian & overseas galleries & has won several awards notably for his vibrant kaleidoscopic effects & strong sense of colour & patterning. Some of her work may look adventurous and chaotic, but the use of alternate colours and elements in either a tactile or ethereal composition gives a unique energy and vibrancy to the images. Her striking use of colour from a vast colour palette creates an inviting atmosphere for the viewer to enter into & beyond the canvas. Her abstract fluid style captures the essence of the subject rather than detail but still retains a semblance of the original idea. Her textures in the artwork & materials used together with her expressive & conceptual intentions totally encapsulate her creativity. Lesley is an emerging artist, photographer, poet & curator who ably assists Patrick achieve his ambitions. They complement each other perfectly.
