About the Author:
Carmen's career began when she earned an associate of applied science degree in nuclear medicine from Triton College in River Grove, Ill., a bachelor of science in nursing from St. Joseph College of Nursing at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill., & a master of science in nursing with a 4.0 GPA from the globally-recognized leader in nursing education, The Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Carmen pursued her postgraduate education at one of the top 15 nurse-midwifery & nurse practitioner programs in the country, Frontier University in Hyden, Ky., where she obtained a certificate as an Advanced Practice Nurse in nurse-midwifery. Additional studies in healthcare economics and disease management led Carmen to a CMR certificate from the Certified Medical Representative Institute in Richmond, Va. Intrigued by the expanding field of healthcare economics, Carmen became a licensed health, life, and legal agent with the Illinois Division of Insurance. She has continued fueling her commitment to lifelong learning with courses at The Rich Dad Education Co. and Tigrent Learning. Carmen started her healthcare career as a certified nuclear medicine technologist and went on to land her first BSN-RN position straight out of nursing school in women's health--labor and delivery. She then became an OB Nurse Manager and finished her full time clinical nursing career as an Advanced Practice Nurse-Midwife. The business world pulled Carmen into healthcare sales. Eight years with Pfizer Inc., once the world's largest pharmaceutical company, gave Carmen solid, foundational knowledge of the field. Keeping active in nursing via Maxim Healthcare Services, the largest privately held healthcare staffing company in the nation, Carmen's healthcare experience expanded in the arenas of maximum security prison nursing, hospice nursing and community health nursing. Then collegiate education and writing came calling. For eight years, Carmen has been a nursing adjunct professor in both ADN and BSN programs in the private and for-profit sectors. In 2012, she became a director of development in Nursing & Health Professions for Corinthian Colleges Inc., one of the largest post-secondary education companies in North America. In July 2012, she decided to share and publish her knowledge.
