Synopsis

My Treasured Memories by James Dale Branner April 4, 2008 I wrote this story so my family, to include grandchildren and great grandchildren would know the story of my life. I have included a great number of pictures to support my memories. Most of the pictures were from family albums, as my family had great interest in collecting pictures. Through my memories, I have relived the greatest days of my life. To keep my story in a chronological perspective, the story starts with my first day at Sunny View Elementary, lists successive memories to the end of high school, and highlights various events and periods during my life. I hope readers will recognize my attempt to accomplish this. I also hope that this writing will inspire future generations to continue to tell their stories for others to read. I am indebted to several people for helping to document my story. I wish to express my special thanks to my Masonic Brother Gerald C. Matthews Jr. of Aberdeen, Maryland; who spent hours on my computer helping to organize topics and pictures; to my sister, Annalyn Hatten of Indianapolis, Indiana; and nephew, Llewellyn Ivory Giles of West Saint Paul, Minnesota; who read my story and advised me on the arrangement; and finally, to my wife, Margaret, for tenaciously encouraging me from the beginning to put my life story in print. As you read My Treasured Memories, I hope you will find it enjoyable. I encourage you to make good memories, to keep them, and to ?Treasure them for the rest of your life?. - James Dale Branner, April 4, 2008 Post-Author note: The royalty proceeds from each book sold are donated to the "CSM James Dale Branner Faith Memorial Scholarship". This fund is in memory of my father, who believed in helping others achieve their educational goals. About the Author

Our Dad, the Richest Man in the World CSM James Dale Branner (Ret.) July 9, 1929 – January 1, 2012 My Dad left a positive mark, and impression, on everyone he interacted with. Whether it was a simple smile with a passerby, or a life-changing moment with a brother in Christ, Dad made a memorable and positive impression on everyone... everyone... that he encountered. Whether he met them once in a simple greeting, or had worked with them for many years. My brothers and I know this because people have told us this over the years. It is because of this reaction that he has on others that I came to realize over time that my Dad was the “Richest Man in the World”. He was rich....in FAITH. I have often wondered, how much in common we boys have with the children of say, a Bill Gates or a Warren Buffet, who are known as the richest men in dollars. I can imagine a reporter asking them or us, “What was it like growing up with a father that is the richest man in the world?”. I believe their response would be the same as ours, “Growing up we didn’t know he was the richest man in the world. To us, he was just “Dad”. But as we grew older, we began to realize that he had been giving us the keys to his richness all along.” Dad was our “Life Instructor”. He would teach us about many things - mechanics, carpentry, education, finances, community, family, the importance of memories, how to treat people, and most importantly - how to be a Christian. My brothers and I received all the lessons on what it takes to be rich in life, rich in faith.... much like I believe he probably did when he was a young man growing up with his father, Reverend Warren C. Branner. So Dad did leave us with a great foundation to get to the same richness he achieved Thank God for the lessons he shared with us along the way, and the journey he placed before us....that one day, we too can take over his position as the “Richest Man in the World” – to be truly rich in our faith to God. What a blessing it will be if one day reporters ask my children, “What’s it like to be the children of the richest man in the world?”, and they were to reply, “Growing up we didn’t know he was the richest man in the world. To us, he was just “Dad”. But as we grew older, we began to realize that he had been giving us the keys to his richness all along.” What a blessing that would be. Thank you, Dad for showing us how to walk in faith. You are a part of our hearts and memories forever. By Ricky O. Branner
