Marzipan follows several months of the life of Lewis, a teenager, who lives on a suburban housing estate in England in the nineteen-eighties. Surrounded by normality, his life and assumptions are uprooted when he discovers both his parents are schizophrenic. Initially he ignores their abnormal behaviour but the reaction of his friends and their families to his father's dramatic breakdown drives Lewis to seek answers. Marzipan stages the age old search for truth in the crucible of suburbia, putting the detective's hat on a teenage boy desperate to know if he will turn into his parents. But Lewis' search can only be on a part-time basis, behind a cover of snogging, shoplifting, being cool, listening to music, and the like.
