9781478711254: Blue Summer Moon: An Anthology of Short Stories, Plays, and Poetry

Blue Summer Moon is a carefully crafted anthology consisting of short stories, plays, and poems. The short stories and plays range in fictional genres from contemporary and urban to the paranormal and fantasy. Each contains characters that are whimsical, lost and soul-searching, or living on the edge as describes the main character in the short story "Grizzabella" who is unable to grapple with circumstances inside a turbulent reality. "Anyone seeing me would have thought I'd been shot and like in the movies, my brain is waiting for the connection. When it does come, I may collapse where I stand or walk a few feet and fall then." The plays in this anthology equally fuse the same tremendous story writing elements and will be enjoyed by audiences everywhere. There are a minimal set of requirements for each, and for those drama teachers interested in casting a large number of students in a play, then Dreams would be an ideal choice. The characters in this play and throughout the entire anthology will have you believing in them from the start. "...things happen to give way... to dreams, and let me tell you, dreams are meant for all of us no matter where or who you are." The poetry collection is a chosen selection of poems written with the same purpose in mind - to inspire our common interest in love, hope, transformation and the ongoing quest to understand the meaning of our existence: "The secrets of a heart as such remain a mystery to me, for if he loved water, why then could he not find the sea?" However your spirit guides you, you'll find it here between the covers of this amazing book.

About the Author:

E. L. Henry was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She has studied acting, dance, and voice while pursuing a career as an actress and singer in Boston, Massachusetts and New York, New York. She also studied art history and performed with a chorus when touring and traveling throughout Europe. She received her bachelor of arts (B.A.) in literature from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and completed her master's while attending Goucher College Teacher's Institute in Maryland. She has taught English, creative writing, dance, and drama and has produced, directed, and staged numerous productions of her original plays found inside this anthology. Ms. Henry continues to teach and plans to soon release her first novel.

Review:

"I like the idea of a book with short stories, plays and poetry together because that itself offers variety to readers. The short stories and plays are original and the formal handling of the language makes them beautiful. The book will interest high school children, young adults and adults alike because the style of writing is progressive and the themes are universal. The emotions in the plays and the characters in the short stories all have been sketched with expertise, and the author's variety of interpretations about life in general is evident in her work." -  Readers' Favorite
