About the Authors

Adria Quiñones' poetry has appeared in The New York Times. Mi Tierra is her first published work for children and the first part of a trilogy about Amaya, her family and friends. A life-long New Yorker, she grew up in Queens and now lives in Washington Heights, where she likes to watch the tugs on the Hudson and the traffic on the George Washington Bridge.



Mrinali Álvarez Astacio is a Puerto Rican illustrator and author. She has worked for various publishing houses, such as McGraw-Hill, Edelvives, SM, and the University of Puerto Rico Press. In 2016, she was selected as one of three shortlisted winners in the Beginning, Middle, and End competition by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators - British Isles. She was also awarded a "Highly Commended Artwork" award in the Macmillan Prize for Children's Book Illustration. Her illustrations were shown at the International Competition of Illustration and Social Graphics in Venice in 2016. The Carnegie Mellon Foundation and Fundación Flamboyán granted her the Letras Boricuas scholarship in 2021. In 2022, the School Library Journal (USA) recommended her book Piecitos de Bebé as "an excellent and one-of-a-kind addition to Spanish board book collections". Mrinali holds an MA and a PhD in Children's Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art at Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom.
