Nancy Zrinyi Long was born in Steubenville, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio Dominican University and earned her doctorate in English / Education from the University of Central Florida. She is a retired Professor of English at Bethune-Cookman University and former Director of the National Writing Project/Daytona Beach site. She is serving as Vice-Mayor for the city of South Daytona, founder of the Heritage Preservation Trust, and activist for social and environmental concerns. She is the author of the book The Life and Legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune. She also has published two children's books: Mary McLeod Bethune: The Black Velvet Rose and The Mystery of the Missing Book: Lilian Place series.
