* Softball Coach over 20 years - all ages and skill levels - club and recreational * Level 3 Softball Certification (Canada) - National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) * Advanced Coaching Diplopma - National Coaching Institute of Canada * Coaching Diploma - Douglas College Canada - Practicum on Mental Training * Sports Science Associate Degree - Douglas College Canada * NCCP Course Facilitator - Coaching Association of Canada * STUDENT - Coach of Sport Psychology - American Board of Sport Psychology The truth is...... my love of sport did not begin until I was 21 years old. And it didn't even start then. I was introduced to the sport of softball through some friends who invited me to come out and play. Sure I said.... that sounds like fun.... NOT! Well at least it was not fun at the start. It was stressful, frustrating and full of anxiety. I was fortunate enough however to have lots of supportive people around me as I stumbled through my introduction to the game. Through my progression I developed an interest in coaching as I watched leaders around me treating their players poorly and struggling with their abilities to bring their team through a season productively. So began my quest to be the best and most athlete centered coach I could be in 1991. Once my decision was made I quickly began my Softball Coaching Certification process through what was then Level 1 of the Canadian National Coaching Certification Program and stayed focused until I earned my level 3 certification. This process is now known as the Competency Based Education Training program of which I have become a course facilitator. Shortly after that I enrolled as a mature student in the coaching and sports science through the first Douglas College Coaching Diploma Program in 1994 and have since completed the program along with the sports science associate degree and later added Advanced Coaching Diploma through the Canadian National Coaching Institute. I truly believe in the power of sport. It was sort of a life saver for me as I was headed in an unfavorable direction with what would have been unfavorable results at the time when I was first introduced to sport. Through sport I was able to gain some confidence and self esteem that became the foundation for my further pursuits leading me to a place of productivity and advancing forward in my life. I am very greatful to softball for its role in my personal and professional development. My participation in the game also directly resulted in my passion for mental training due to its enormous effects that it had in my ability to enjoy my participation to a fuller extent. I know from personal experience as a coach for over 20 years and a player the effect that sports can have on a person on and off the playing field and would like to see more recognition for the "average" participant who simply wants to enjoy being active and spending time with friends while gaining physical and psychological benefits of that journey. This should not however include stress and/or anxiety which is so often the case but should be fun and rewarding. My Progressive Psychological Performance workbooks (now for 24 different sports) can hopefully assist in allowing recreational and developmental athletes to take in some of that enjoyment productively. My hope is that All participants regardless of the level they are playing at can take something away from sport the way I did. Now get out there and have fun!! :)Review:
I found this workbook very helpful in improving my psychological performance. The easy to follow exercises helped me to prepare for my games, practises and tournaments. It made a huge difference in my performance. Using the visualization exercises before practises really made it seem like I had done it before. It is an excellent workbook that's easy to follow. -- K.
