A hilarious whodunit set on the beautiful island of Nantucket, ACK and Back is a tongue-in-cheek mystery, emphasizing the importance of love, friendship, and the delicate art of navigating family dynamics. Filled with lighthearted anecdotal history and an insider’s knowledge of contemporary island life, this novel by Dennie Doran weaves an engaging plot, full of suspense and geriatric derring-do. With the return of the loveable characters from 2011’s ACK Attack, this sequel reunites readers with the endearing Marshall family, as well as the saucy students in Maggie’s classes. Filled with sidesplitting family shenanigans, a baby-boomer romance, and vivid local color, this engaging novel is as entertaining as it is informative. When middle school teacher Maggie Marshall is inadvertently mistaken for an undercover cop, she finds herself targeted for terror by a ruthless gang of dastardly thugs. As she avoids the villain’s clutches, she must also come to grips with the consequences of a near romance with longtime family friend, David Malenga. Despite the help of her zany family, particularly the quirky Aunt Amy, Maggie learns some important lessons about herself, her relationships, and the hazards of getting in the way of nasty bad guys.

About the Author:
Doran resides, teaches school, and runs a flower farm on Nantucket. Like her zany heroines, she is a member in good standing of AARP and frequently on the wrong side of good sense. She sprinkles snippets of her quirky family life and her teaching experiences into her fiction and is dedicated to offering readers anecdotal Nantucket history, insights into the contemporary culture of the island, and a humorist’s perspective on the dynamics of relationships. A fourth generation summer person, Doran has lived on Nantucket as a year-rounder for the last eleven years, coming out of retirement to jump back into the fray as a middle school teacher.
