After graduating from the University of Missouri with a degree I would never actually use, - the car business found me. A family friend hired me as a Tire Salesman to help me get by until I found a “real” job. After a few months the company closed its doors. While looking for work, I had no intentions of staying in the Auto Industry. A local job service however, gave my information to a Ford dealership and they offered me a Service Writer's position. I accepted their offer. Eventually I graduated to selling cars and did pretty well. Over the next several years I held positions as a Finance Manager, New Car Manager, Used Car Manager, General Sales Manager and General Manager. My success in Sales Management was directly related to my true strength of understanding Finance. I eventually chose to leave the “dealership life” to work for myself. I'd like to think of my time spent working in dealership's as similar to a student earning a degree in the Auto Industry. The purpose of this manual is to share some knowledge so someone else can benefit from my experience. It is also selfless promotion. I focus my training and consultation work on advising small dealerships for a reasonable fee. I figure the best advertisement for my service is to provide a sample of what I know about Automotive Finance. I worked very hard to create this manual and believe it to be a fantastic resource, but nothing can replace hands on training.
