9781481728096: Growing Up in the Nation's Capital: We Made It, But It Took an Entire Village

Growing Up in the Nation’s Capital, invites the reader to spend some time with Carrolyn Pichet as she tells the stories of her childhood growing up in Washington, D.C., in the 1940s. Growing from her recollections of the caring and distinctive people who lived around her and creating a village in the midst of the city, this memoir does not tie itself down with exhaustively documented research. Instead, it liberates the members of the community to come to life through the stories that make up its account of the author’s early years. Over the span of thirteen chapters, Growing Up in the Nation’s Capital introduces the author’s family, describes her humble beginnings, paints a picture of family life, walks around the local community, recounts childhood adventures, recalls family road trips, and follows the author on her journey to adulthood. If you have wondered what goes on in the nation’s capital in the places beyond the shadows of monuments and outside the halls of power, then Growing Up in the Nation’s Capital will give you an intimate, personal, and memorable guided tour of one woman’s life and help you to become familiar with the lives of all of the members of her urban village.

Book Description Authorhouse. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. 258 pages. Dimensions: 9.1in. x 6.5in. x 1.0in.The authors first book, The Best Is Yet to Come, was published in 2011. Her first poetry book, My Lovely Golden Rose, will be published shortly. An avid lover of the fine arts, she enjoys storytelling, speech and writing contests. She is following her grandmothers footsteps and fulfilling her dreams by reciting and interpreting poetry. My nostalgic tales are true to the best of my ability-actually theyre true to the best of my memory. Ive purposely related my tales only as far as my short-term memory goes. Yes, I know I seem to be going around in circles, but I can assure you that the rest of my story can be considered as pure fiction. That could mean that I filled in the blanks with a reasonable facsimile of the truth, or that I fabricated my tales to liven up and embellish my lifes adventures. Of course the part about growing up in the nations capital is true. I am indeed a home-grown Washingtonian. Im going to tell you about my childhood and Ill stand by every word! The places are real, but some of the names of the characters have been changed to protect my innocence. I know my Miranda rights and readily acknowledge that anything I say can, and most certainly will be used against me. But Ill remind you that most of my tales took place when the protagonists were merely innocent kids; just happy kids doing what innocent, happy kids do. Youll be served up with the most unimaginable deeds that any rag-tag gang could conjure up for your pleasure. Enjoy! This item ships from multiple locations. Your book may arrive from Roseburg,OR, La Vergne,TN. Hardcover. Bookseller Inventory # 9781481728096
