Peter Kopac was born in 1946 in a prisoner of war hospital in Italy to Slovenian parents. He spent much of his childhood in France before immigrating to the United States. After a 42-year career as a civil engineer, most of it with the federal government, he retired in 2010. He now lives in Arizona, where he enjoys the great outdoors, especially hiking, biking, and swimming.
