In the heat of summer and the moment, murder is most likely. Graham Spencer, high school social studies teacher, takes a summer off to write his first novel in the picturesque setting of Hood Canal and the San Juan Islands in Washington State. As he crafts his tale, Graham's research uncovers a historical, real-life, unsolved killing. During his stay at his brother's rustic cabin, he meets a veritable cast of unforgettable "characters" that add humor and intrigue to the story. Graham not only writes about the cold-case murder, he becomes entangled in a homicide in the neighborhood, one that turns the small Dabob Bay community of Brinnon topsy-turvy. As Graham's summer adventure unfolds, the reader becomes privy to the local crime as well as the murder from the past featured in his up-and-coming book--a double mystery plot in this novel within a novel. Every good book should appeal to all five senses. Taste is often the most difficult to portray. So, AJ Arthur has included some favorite recipes to give a "taste" of the characters and area. Unexpectedly, Graham finds more than murder and recipes on Hood Canal. Romance was the last thing on his mind but becomes a "perk" of his summer venture in the form of charming coffee house owner, Kandis McFerrin.<

AJ Arthur is pseudonym for Rebecca A. Cass, Molly J. Brog, and Dennis Arthur Cass. After many summer visits to the Hood Canal area in Washington state, they dreamed of writing a murder mystery set in that locale. The three committed to write each Wednesday night and described the experience as three hours of eating and laughing and one hour of writing. Each author had different writing and editing strengths, and a strong collaborative effort ensued. Nine months later, this novel was born. After the book was completed, Dennis and Becky moved from La Grande, OR, and the manuscript gathered dust for 15 years. On a whim, the three resurrected their manuscript in the fall of 2012, revised it, and embarked on getting it published. Becky is a retired elementary teacher. She was the poet laureate and sharp-eyed critic in the writing process. Molly, Becky’s cousin, is a retired university professor and high school teacher. She was the word maven and fast-fingered typist of the novel. Dennis, Becky’s husband, is a retired high school English teacher. He was the plot guy and the humorist of the group. Dennis and Becky live in Vancouver, WA, and Molly lives in La Grande, OR. They are currently eating, laughing, and “plotting” their next Graham Spencer novel.
