Having been an animal lover since he was very young and wanting to be an animal doctor from the age of seven, he was one of those fortunate few who had a goal as to one's vocation as an adult. After graduating from Binghamton Central High School in New York in 1961, he attended the Pennsylvania State University and majored in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. He was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1964, and graduated cum laude in 1968 with a Veterinary Medical Doctor degree. His first place of employment was with Somerset Veterinary Group in Somerville, New Jersey. He furthered his education at the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on a post-doctoral fellowship. Later, he opened his own small animal practice, Blue Ridge Veterinary Clinic in Walnutport, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Tina have three children- Edward Dionne III, Terri Dennis and Michelle Dionne, and five grandchildren- Desiree, Emily, Zachary, Kestrel and Aziza. After retiring, they now reside in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, near Penn State. They have been involved in numerous volunteer activities including Special Olympics and Heifer Project International.
