Success, tragedy and desire beset an award-winning, bi-racial musician with two loves: Music and beautiful women. Growing up in Los Angeles in the 1980s, he is doted upon by his Black mother and Asian father and experiences growing pains, first love and a passion for music. One summer, at the height of high school popularity, he is devastated by a tragic accident and reverts into a shell. He finds therapeutic comfort in playing his music. With formal training he moves on and becomes a successful musical composer. When he accidentally stumbles upon a rapper illegally using his music, he decides to start his own record company, Masumi Records. Recruiting a couple of rappers and a female garage band, under his management and tutelage they become mega-music stars. Jason becomes caught up in the celebrity lifestyle and finds himself obsessed with perfecting each song released to the airwaves. In an effort to maintain the number one spot on the record charts, he seduces most of the members of the band in an effort to bring out their passion. The record company continues to churn out hit after hit, and then one day his empire begins to crumble. The rappers are getting into trouble, the girls are fighting among themselves, there are rumors that he has fathered the baby of another celebrity, and then his indirect connection with a decades-old murder sets him up as an unwitting target. His life continues to spiral out of control until he realizes that his greatest love far surpasses the other. But has his self-realization come too late? Masumi Records is a coming-of-age story, providing laugh-out-loud humor, romance and mystery, reminding us how passionate we can be about what we love the most.
