Adrian McCartney is a Church of Ireland Minister, an occasional contributor to BBC Radio’s Five Live, a father, and a Manchester United winger with a wicked left foot – well at least three of these things are true. Having studied theology at St. John’s, Nottingham, and at Trinity College, Dublin, Adrian was appointed Curate and then Rector to the parish of Monkstown in 1988. Throughout the next two decades Adrian became a regular voice and personality in Ireland’s largest Christian Festival, Summer Madness. He also developed its groundbreaking outreach programme, StreetReach that saw thousands of young people take to the streets of Belfast every summer to carry out simple, practical acts of kindness. In 2002 Adrian's bishop welcomed Adrian’s vision to start a new way of doing church in Moneyrea – to create a fresh expression of church called ‘Wells’ that met the needs of local people – people who had never or rarely been to a traditional church before. That vision opened the door on an amazing journey of discovery that has seen attempts (and some successes) at starting Youth Churches, Café Churches, Pub Churches and Messy Churches across South and East Belfast. www.adrianmccartney.com
