"Featuring the illustrations of Jenny Manno, "Madi's Dollhouse" by Alexis Powers is a fantasy story about a girl who cannot hear. Home schooled by her mother, Madi communicates by writing. Although she feels loved, she is very lonely. For Christmas her father builds her a dollhouse. On a picnic with her parents, Madi finds a family of tiny human beings who can somehow hear and understand her. Madi takes them home to live in her fully furnished doll house. Not happy, the tiny family makes the best of the situation. Finally they plead with Madi to take them back to where she found them because her doll house is a prison for them. They miss their friends. Madi painfully learns that often you must give up something to get something. "Madi's Dollhouse" is a fine fantasy reading experience for children aged 7 and up." -Midwest Book Review
