This second installment in the Sunscapes Trilogy continues the epic struggle between two mega companies, deciding the fate of the entire galaxy. The Endgame has begun, pitting Shay Enterprises against Quasicore—the Shay twins, mysterious and dangerous, weave a seductive web for their ruthless, lethal opponent, Webster Griffin, whose hunger for power and control might just destroy all civilization.
Here There Be Dragons continues the saga through Nick Givliani as he investigates the unscrupulous and unpredictable Shay twins and their intriguing cohort, Cassie Draegen. As Shay Enterprise’s resident genius, driven by a dark past of her own, Cassie is their technological advantage over Quasicore. A target of both Griffin’s avarice and Nick’s investigations, Cassie desperately struggles to fulfill the next step in the Shay’s complex design against their enemy.

It was such a pleasure to revisit these characters and expand on what I'd started with Last Chance. Nick was a fun hero to flesh out, from his love for his brother and fear that he wouldn't be able to rescue Del to his struggle with a growing attraction for Cassie, a prime suspect in his investigation of the Shays. I took great delight in torturing him with the Shay twins, who together are a very scary force of nature.
Cassie was also a delight to create, the Shay's resident braincase and tech whiz. Smart though she might be and focused on her work, Nick still melts her brain and dodging his persistent investigation gets...complicated. She also gave me the perfect opportunity to explore the AI aspect of the storyline and give my super-villain Webster Griffin an even more sinister edge.
The sleek and powerful racing ships, the Shadow slicers, still have their moments to shine, but I was also able to bring forward an aspect of the storyline that had only lurked in the background in the first book: the Sun Orders. Religion is always a tricky subject, but no one can deny that faith has power, and the Sun Orders reveal that they have a part to play in this ongoing struggle between good and evil.
But of course the war isn't won in this story! The battle concludes in the third book, Dawn of the Red Sun, which I'm diligently working on now. So I hope you'll enjoy reading Here There Be Dragons as much as I enjoyed writing, and join me later for the grand finale.
