NIECY is the heart wrenching, true account of the journey one mother takes while her child is lost in a coma. Janny faces both painful and uplifting memories as she struggles to come to terms with the horseback riding accident that leaves her vibrant, young daughter beyond her reach. Recollections of times past bring joy and sorrow while the family attempts to restore normalcy to their lives. Tales of Pork Chop the pig, Tiny Tim the squirrel, Girl Scout events gone awry, Christmases past, a tiny mouse house, and beloved Teddy Bear Brown paint the picture of a girl who lived in her imagination as much as in the real world. Janny and Niecy's relationship is more than mother and daughter: it is truly one of kindred spirits and best friends. Told with the truth and dignity, Niecy's story is one that will stay with you long after the last pages are read.

About the Author:
When I learned how to print my name, I knew I wanted to be a writer. I wrote my first book at age 5: it was 50 pages on brightly colored construction paper. I was so excited, I ran to my brother to show him. But my excitement quickly turned to tears when he said, “Read it to me,” and I didn’t know how to read or write! I had simply made a childish book of loops and squiggles. But I kept writing and never stopped. I am self-taught and grateful to the people who helped me along the way. The desire to write was and is enormously strong within me: I write everyday and have never experienced “writer’s block.” Besides writing, I also read poetry everyday. My brother insisted that I get his book “Genie and Janny” published. Sadly, he died before it happened, although he did read the complete manuscript and loved it—and that moment was my finest hour. Genie believed in me when I did not believe in myself. Niecy's book is one I am proud to present in honor of her and her life. She truly was and is an angel, and I am pleased to share her story with you. I do not find writing to be an endeavor, though it is done in a room by oneself. For me it is a great feeling of finding out who I am. If some people say it’s a gift, then I accept it gladly and will do the best I possibly can. I promise to write always from the heart, never lie to my reader, and listen to what the silence is trying to tell me. Over the years, I have won numerous poetry contests, and I have been published in magazines. I have written 25 children’s stories and hope if my readers like the things I have to say, then they will want to read them to their children or to the wee folk they know. Thank you for taking this journey with me! -Janny
